Blue is low end side


  • It is also known as compound gauge because it can measure the pressure of the refrigerant and also the vaccum.
  • It measure pressure in PSIG (pound per square inch) and vaccum in inches of mercury.
  • It has inner rings for most common refrigerants like R22,R410A and R404A.
  • It is connected to suction line and generally you can see some insulation.
  • Measures pressure between 0 to 120 PSI.


Red is high end side


  • It is connected to liquid line and generally has no insulation.
  • It can measure pressure between 0 to 500 PSI(Much higher than blue hose).


Yellow line is multipurpose


  • Yellow line is connected to vaccum pump when evacuating the refrigerant.
  • Yellow line is connected to refrigerant cylinder when charging the system.


Points to remember


  • Gauge and knob for both blue and red lines are of the same color as line.
  • You need to make sure that only one of kind of refrigerant is inside the system for correct reading.

  • For R410A Refrigerant 100 PSI corresponds to 32 degree farenhite in PT chart.You can verify the same of R410A Scale in compound gauge.
  • For R22 Refrigerant 70 PSI corresponds to 41 degree farenhite in PT chart.You can verify the same in R22 Ring in compound gauge.
  • For R410A refrigerant 500 PSI corresponds to 134 degree farenhite in PT Chart.You can verify the same in R410A ring in High side gauge.
